A graduate in Medicine from the University of Lisbon and trained in Ophthalmology at Instituto Dr. Gama Pinto, she serves as Consultant in the Department of Ocular Surface and Cornea at Hospital de Egas Moniz, Western Lisbon Local Health Unit, and as Associate Researcher at the Egas Moniz Center for Interdisciplinary Research. Clinically, her expertise includes ocular surface disease, cornea, cataract surgery, and ultrasound, with active participation in international consortia on ophthalmic drug delivery. Helena has recently been chairing the department of low vision and rehabilitation. Equally dedicated to education, Helena earned a master’s degree in medical education (summa cum laude) and has since advanced innovation in continuing professional development (CPD), curriculum design, simulation-based education, and mentorship. She has chaired educational committees for several global professional organizations, such as ICO, ARVO, the Ophthalmology Foundation, AMEE, and the European Board of Ophthalmology, among others. Recognized as a Fellow of AMEE, SACME, and the European Academy of Clinical Leadership, Helena continues to shape global faculty development and CPD with a commitment to excellence and collaboration.
